How to add a product to your product catalog ?

Create custom products

There are three main ways to customize your product catalog:

  1. Duplicate an existing product to modify its name, price, brand, or options.
  2. Add a non-existent product using an existing Visuary model as a base.
  3. Add a non-existent product from scratch.

To make a one-time adjustment to the price of an object for a specific project, you can do so directly from your plan. Simply select the object on the plan and click on the price you wish to adjust in the left-hand menu. This price change will only apply to that specific instance of the object on the plan.

Duplicate an existing product to modify its characteristics

Default products in the catalog cannot be modified directly. If you wish to customize a product’s name, brand, price, or options, you will need to duplicate it.

To duplicate a product, you can:

  • Hover over the product with your mouse and click on the two-rectangle icon that appears on the right-hand side of the row:

  • Or, open the product by clicking on it and then select the "Duplicate" button:

The duplicated product will now appear in black in your product catalog, while default products remain grayed out to indicate they cannot be modified.

Add a non-existent product using a Visuary model

To add a new product to your catalog, click the "Add a product" button.

A pop-up window will appear, allowing you to select the product category. You can browse categories using the dropdown menus or search for a keyword in the search bar.

Once your category selected, select the desired model from those available and click "Create" to save your product.

Using an existing Visuary model provides the advantage of starting with a pre-configured product, including its name, dimensions, options, and a compatible 3D representation ready for use.

Add a non-existent product from scratch

To add a product from scratch, follow the same steps as adding a product using a Visuary model. However, instead of selecting an existing model, choose the "No Model" option.

You will then need to fully configure the product. Key steps include adding a 3D representation compatible with Visuary (.glb format) and defining the dimensions.

Once your 3D model is uploaded, switch to 3D view in the object configuration menu. Click on the three dots to automatically import the dimensions from your 3D object.

Learn more about creating 3D objects for Visuary

Visuary uses the .glb format to integrate 3D models into its platform. If you want to import your own creations, follow these best practices to ensure optimal rendering and fast loading times.

  • Use the right tool for exporting
You can export your models to .glb format using tools like Blender (free and comprehensive) or other compatible 3D software. We highly recommend Blender for its efficient .glb exporter, which we also use internally.
  • Optimize your 3D model before exporting
The primary factor to optimize for web use is the file size of your .glb. Large files can lead to slow loading times and a poor user experience. Most assets used on Visuary are less than 1 MB, and even the most complex rarely exceed 2–3 MB.
    Tips for Reducing File Size:
    • Optimize Textures:

      • Convert textures to WebP or JPG for a better quality-to-size ratio.
      • Remove unnecessary textures and normal maps if their visual impact is minimal.
      • Avoid textures larger than 2048x2048 pixels, as they significantly increase file size.
      • Use multiple materials with repetitive textures (tiling) instead of a single texture atlas for better resolution and smaller file sizes.
    • Simplify Geometry: Reduce the number of polygons without compromising visual quality.

    • Enable Draco Compression: If your export tool supports it, activate Draco compression to reduce file size further.

  • Test and adjust your export

If your model doesn’t display correctly in Visuary, follow these steps:

  • Reimport your .glb file into your 3D software to ensure it functions correctly.
  • Review your software’s documentation for exporting in gltf/glb format, as it has specific restrictions (e.g., texture mapping).
  • Avoid simple file conversions from formats like .fbx, .obj, or CAD formats without proper adjustments, as these are unlikely to work seamlessly.

Importing custom 3D objects into Visuary requires some preparation, but by following these steps, you’ll create optimized, web-ready models. This ensures a smooth user experience while maintaining high visual quality.

Don’t hesitate to experiment with different configurations and refine your exports to strike the perfect balance between visual quality and performance.
